The Polly Hill Arboretum, a Martha’s Vineyard horticultural and botanical landmark, was developed by the legendary horticulturist, Polly Hill. Established in 1998 as a not-for-profit institution the Arboretum is devoted to the cultivation and study of plants and the preservation of the character and magic of this tranquil landscape.
In the main building furniture can be moved and reconfigured as needs dictate. The space is a gift shop and information center during the day; at night it can be adapted for lectures and presentations.
Each building has large roof overhangs that offer shading and protection from rough weather. Awning windows allow in island breezes. A rustic trellis topped with native locust boughs links the two buildings.
